Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
As many of you are aware, the 2009-2010 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) officially opened on Monday, November 2, 2009.
HEAP is a federally funded program that assists low-income households in meeting their home energy needs. The HEAP program offers a one-time regular benefit, emergency benefit, and furnace repair or replacement services.
This HEAP season, the maximum regular benefit a household can receive is $700.00. In addition, the eligibility levels have increased. For example, a family of four with a household income of as much as $46,836 would be eligible for assistance this year.
Already, over 2,000 applications were mailed to all households that received a HEAP benefit during the 2008-09 season. These applications may be returned by mail without the need to come in to the agency. All other new applicants must apply in person and meet all established criteria for eligibility, such as income and resource requirements.
To apply for HEAP, clients may come in to the agency or call 366-2211 for an application and appointment, or further information. Also, anyone interested in checking their eligibility for any financial assistance program may do so at: myBenefits.ny.gov
For any DSS employee who would like to apply for HEAP or any other financial assistance program, we encourage you to contact the Director of the program for which you'd like to apply for more information and assistance.

The Town of Brookfield has been awarded a grant from HUD through New York State for $400,000.00 for housing rehabilitation for North Brookfield. This is the same type of grant that we received in the past for other parts of the town, and we look forward to being able to use it for much needed improvements for North Brookfield residences. If anyone has any questions about the application process or eligibility, please contact the town @ 899-3364, or you can call town supervisor John Salka @ 861-2793.
Thanks, John
